5 Knuckle Surprise - Say Just Stay

Bio:
Originally formed in 1994 as a 4 piece high school cover band called "under the influence" (an incredibly original name). I think after a year and a half we had 6 original songs. We played mostly high school shows and then one day we graduated form high school and there was nowhere to play anymore, but we kept practicing for the fun of it. Next Things took a dramatic change once mid 1996 came around. Nick Snow vocals/guitar at the time, quit the band to focus on school and football. The remaining 3 of us practiced for fun on occasion until one day we covered a face to face song at one of our practices, the raw sound of punk rock was exactly what we needed to break away from the (at the time) ever so popular yet unenergetic "grunge" style. Face to Face led to the Descendents led to Bad Religion led NOFX led to Lagwagon led to........... you name it. With our changing preferences in music, came what we think of as a nice blend of beats and sounds that we liked and had fun playing and that was enough to get the ball rolling on what has shaped up to be Five Knuckle Surprise.

(1996-2000)
1996 to mid 97 was nothing but pure practice of our own brand of fast punk until we landed a show through a friend of a friend over at the old "Purple Haze" showbar in Montreal. From there we had got the itch to play live anywhere we could. We ended playing a lot of shows, in a lot of places. For a while it seemed like we were always playing shows and we loved it, in doing so we also met a lot of cool people. In this time period we had recorded a full length album that unfortunately we never released and that very few people have. There are however 2 songs from this recording released on 3 different compilations (check our media section for details). In November of 1997 we were lucky enough to be asked by Greenland Productions to open up the show for Diesel Boy and X-large. Since then we have played with some really cool bands like SUBB, Jughead`s Revenge, Mustard Plug and All the Answers. But things were going to change again! Stay tuned for the E true hollywood story!

(2000-2002)
Mark moves to Ottawa,,,, the nations capital. For 2 years the entire project gets put on hold to the point where we are not even a band anymore and the name Five Knuckle Surprise just fizzels out and drops off the Canadian punk rock map. It was however a nice break, we were now able to start fresh. (2003-2005) They've been included on numerous compilations (Raw Energy Records, Freedumb Records, Simple Things Records, and the recently released Burnout Productions compilation featuring Allister from Drive-Thru Records). Their sophomore release entitled “…Til it Hits You”, (Final Records, Dec. 2003) has been getting rave reviews, and excellent distro through a company called Local Distribution and is now widely available at HMV and Archambault record stores, as well as smaller outlets.

Reset

Current band members:
Phil Jolicoeur - Lead Guitar & Lead Vocal
Matt Kapuszczak - Lead Guitar & Vocals
Adrian White - Drums & BG Vocals Samples, Synths
Justin Brandreth - Bass & BG Vocals

Web:
Reset facebook profile

Bio:
Reset was formed in 1993 by Pierre Bouvier and Chuck Comeau when they were 13 years old. The original band members were Pierre Bouvier (vocals), Philippe Jolicoeur (guitar and vocals), Chuck Comeau (drums) and Jean-Sébastien Boileau (bass). The first name for Reset was Roach, but there was another band in Canada also named Roach so the band members changed the name to Reset.

The band's first full length album, No Worries, released in 1997, was recorded at Le Studio Morin-Heights and produced by Rod Shearer. The band shot a video clip for the single "Why?". In 1998, the band lineup changed. Bouvier took Boileau's place in playing bass and a new member, Adrian White from Vancouver, replaced Comeau as drummer after a conflict between Bouvier and Comeau (see song Friend - 1999).

In 1999, the band released No Limits, which was co-written by Adrian White. This album was recorded in Vancouver, British Columbia, and was produced by Greg Reely. Three video clips were filmed for No Limits: "Pollution", "Pressure", and "My Dream and I". Shortly after the filming of "Pressure", Bouvier left Reset to reacquaint with Comeau and form Simple Plan. David Desrosiers replaced Bouvier in 2000 but only stayed with the band for six months, being recruited by Simple Plan members to fill their bass spot.

In 2003, Reset released a third album, Radioactive. The album was produced, performed, mixed and mastered by Philippe Jolicoeur. This is the first album that Phil produced with his own record label, Indy Rekordz Inc. "Choke" and "Kyoto" are the singles and the new video clips for that album. On "Kyoto", Reset speaks about Kyoto Protocol.

In March 2008, they released their fourth album No Intensity. This album is similar to their first album No Worries, with anti-government songs very influentials like "Corrupted To The Bone", "Redemption" and "Papillon". This last song is based on the book named Papillon written by Henri Charrière. The single for this album is the song named 'No Intensity'. The album is produced by Rod Shearer, who also produced No Worries and the band's demo CD Concerned. Over the years Reset participated in five Canadian tours and three American tours, the 1997, 2000 and 2006 Vans Warped Tour in North America. Reset has played with bands such as Green Day, MxPx, NOFX, Pennywise, Millencolin, Lagwagon, Face to Face, Strung Out, and Ten Foot Pole.

In March 2009, the band performed a special show with their original line-up for Musique Plus's (French Much Music) punk rock show 1-2-3 Punk! 10th anniversary. They played with GrimSkunk, The Sainte Catherines, Vulgaires Machins, The Planet Smashers and Subb.

The band with new line up is going to release new album "Antidote"

Propagandhi

Jesus H. Chris - vox, axe
The Rod - vox, bass

Web:
Propagandhi facebook profile
Official

Bio:
Propagandhi was formed in 1986.

Founding members Chris Hannah and Jordan Samolesky are also founding members of the G7 Welcoming Committee, which to date has released over 50 records including seminal recordings by the (International) Noise Conspiracy, warsawpack, Subhumans, I Spy, Submission Hold, Swallowing Shit, Giant Sons, The Rebel Spell and spoken word releases by Noam Chomsky, Ann Hansen and Ward Churchill.

In 1997 Propagandhi recruited The Rod from a band called I SPY. Propagandhi and I SPY had previously toured Western Canada, and released a split 10′ record together.

The band released 4 records on the American label Fat Wreck Chords until 2005 when its relationship with the label began to sour over its CEO’s highly-publicized campaign to ensure that Democratic Party got a turn to totally rape and plunder the planet in the service of corporate power.

Feeling a little too much a part of the scenery, the band pulled a Peter Gabriel and stepped right out of the machinery for much of 2005, focusing band energy on volunteering and fundraising projects for groups such as Sage House, Sisters in Spirit, Middle East Children’s Alliance, the Grassy Narrows Blockade, the Sea Shepherd Society, the Canada-Haiti Action Network and Welcome Place.

In 2006, the band became a 4-piece for the first time 20 years, adding David “Beaver” Guillas to the fold, whose previous posts included masterminding the legendary, meditative, experimental instrumental trio, Giant Sons, who Hannah described as “the best band in Winnipeg since I Spy called it a day”.

In 2006, the band were nominated for — and actually somehow won — the inaugural ECHO Songwriting Prize for the song “A Speculative Fiction”, from the album Potemkin City Limits. The band responded, “awards are like hemorroids: eventually every asshole gets one” and promptly donated the award money to the Canada-Haiti Action Network (a pro-democracy, anti-imperialist project) and the Welcome Place (a refugee support agency in central Winnipeg).

In 2007, Hannah was voted one of the Worst Canadians in History by a journal published by Canada’s National History Society. He actually beat out current Canadian prime-minister/ living jack-ass Stephen Harper and notorious serial-killer Paul Bernardo. Hannah demanded a recount when it was announced he came in 2nd to former Prime Minister (and current dead guy) Pierre Elliot Trudeau.

In 2008, Chris went on sabbatical from G7 Welcoming Committee Records, meaning that for the first time in 11 years, Propagandhi would receive the undivided attention and energy the band felt the project deserved. Nine months later the band completed their 5th full-length album entitled “Supporting Caste”, a 50,000 watt no-holds-barred, forward-thinking tip-of-the-hat to the giants — Voivod, Rush, NoMeansNo, SNFU, Sacrifice, Razor, Guilt Parade — that have gone before them.

In 2009, stoked beyond reason with their new tunes and line-up, Propagandhi plan to tour more than they have in their entire history with the express purpose of maligning the prevailing order(s). They are currently practicing the art of cannibalism and will soon release a cookbook of finger-licking recipes.

Propagandhi's Failed States is the band’s sixth album, and their second as a fourpiece with the addition of Dave “The Beaver” Guillas on guitar. This has lead to a distinctive thickening and fortifying of the band’s sound, to the point where they now achieve maximum heaviness, in a good way. This is most definitely the best Propagandhi album yet, full of loud, fast, indignant songs that stick in your head.

Bio:
September 1994: Five college students decided to form a punk band. Stephan (vocals), Frederic (guitar), Matt (guitar), David (bass) and Mark (drums) come together to form so Useless.

The group soon earned a reputation in the Montreal region, especially after the release of their first album in 1995 Madawaza: A Nice Place To Be. Combining both melodies and stage presence, Useless joins other local groups of the era such as Hooligans Crew, Reset, X-Large, Men O 'Steel for performances in various venues in Montreal and surroundings. The same group will perform at the Metropolis in Montreal with Strung Out and The Vandals.

In 1997, Useless entered to  studio again to record their second album: Last Laugh. This album will be more obscure than the last. It will also be the album that will sell the most, and for good reason: it contains many catchy melodies. This new popularity will only increase the motivation of the group to perform on stage. That time will prove auspicious for Useless compositions that will chain one after the other. The fan base is growing and the group enjoy a little local popularity.

Then the curse befalls Stephan frontman. This young man yet very active and jovial, announced during a rehearsal he has cancer. At age 23, he must follow chemotherapy and he will find very weak. Group survival remains uncertain. However, members continue to practice and compose as much as they can. An agreement was finally taken to record a new album for them they will only be distributed free.

So they come into the studio and spend a summer of 1999 to record their third and latest album entitled: A New Hope. To continue the theme, the group decided to take a song from the debut album entitled "Cancer".

A New Hope is probably the most successful work of the group. The songs cover several topics: love, hate, cancer, feminism, music marketing, vegetarianism, vanity, lust ... Now that the group has finished his last appointment, he talks about a temporary separation time that Stephan will redo his health. The reformation of the band will never happen.
