Bio:
Named after a 1900’s railway worker who lived with a personality disorder after an accident blew a hole in his head, Brighton’s PHINIUS GAGE have been piercing brains of their own throughout the UK with their furious brand of diverse punk rock. Phinius Gage were an established UK underground skate punk band who started up in 2002. They have received regular airplay on national BBC Radio 1's punk rock show The Lock Up - including a session at Maida Vale studios [1] - and are featured on MTV, and in magazines including Rock Sound, Big Cheese, Kerrang!, Metal Hammer,[2] Rhythm and The Source. They play music in the vein of Pennywise, Rise Against, Strung Out and Ignite. The band have not played a show since September 2007 when they played the Concorde2 in Brighton with The King Blues, and on Mike Scott's solo music site,[3] he reports they are currently on hiatus.
Review: The Feeling Something's Wrong by Europunk.net
(...) From opener “The Question Always Comes” up until the very last song, you get treated to a pretty straightforward brand of melodic hardcore that still exudes energy and attitude aplenty. And maybe that straightforward brand is my biggest beef with this record. Even though it’s all executed in a decent and very like-able fashion (it didn’t take me long to start singing along mind), it all just feels a bit too same-y in the end, especially where the chorus is concerned. Weird observation is also that all the best songs of the album (in my opinion at least) seem to be lodged near the end of playtime. I also feel that PG are let down a bit by the production of the album, which seems a bit flat at times, which can explain why I get that sense of deja-vu from song to song. I’m sure that had this passed through the hands of a Ryan Greene for instance, the songs would have that little amount of extra energy and spunk to elevate their songs from “just” good to frickin’ excellent, which makes me believe PG have yet to deliver their best work and makes me extremely eager to hear how the band will progress in the future. That’s not to say the band are unable to deliver on this one, as they certainly blow me away at some moments with sweet, layered harmonies and pack the punch with dark, metal-infused riffs though a Strung Out reference would be a bit out of place really. Just listen to the fantastic crackers that be “Are We There Yet” and “We Are The Romans” that has a bit of a My Chemical Romance vibe. Weird enough, it’s a track like “The Sieve And The Sand”, where the band breaks out of their usual song pattern a little, that is able to totally sway me off my feet, even though I generally don’t like tracks that flow at such a moderate pace, which again confirms the potential and ability of these UK lads. The band also deserve credit for writing about something else than the usual heartbreak. “The Feeling Something’s Wrong” is the most intelligently written album I have heard in ages with a drive that will undoubtedly gain them a massive amount of new fans, both in their home country and beyond (...)Discography:
