It’s great that some bands take for serious being into this genre. “ It’s not hard to see that some of them tend to stagnate in the simple meaning if they start out so and so that is how it gonna be”. Well not these guys. These Quebec lads with each album are better and better and their Thunderblast album showed us that Mute have something to say and prove.
The band bring so far: demo, one EP and two full lengths. With new album Mute has completed their transition from a good solid skate punk band to a more mature band that don’t affaid to use new things. In comparison to their previous album Thunderblast offer more heavier and varried side of Mute. Fans of Strung Out guitar riffs will be pleased. Bates Motel, Wof's Den, The Tempest are the fine first examples how the band can posses that sound without losing fast and melody. While Bates Motel offer a great balance between main and background vocals with perfect situated transitions, Wof's Den and The Tempest brings great guitar riffs. Damn that beginning of The Tempest. I can listen it over and over. I have that feeling that they listened a lot of rock or heavy metal bands lattely. I’m baffed how they used some elements from these genres to melodic punk album.
It seems that this disc have nothing but highlights. Nevermore, Calcul(h)ating and The Stangers Back Again mark Thunderbalst album. Epic harmonies, great located backing vocals. Everything with fast tunes and melodies that can please every long serving Mute fans (The Stangers Back Again).
Mute are able to create large spectrum of the songs. On this one you can find more mid temp song Neon Valley and the great Mr. Big cover To Be with You. I must admit that this is the best cover I have listen since couple years.
The success achieved, look how many labels released Thunderbalst.
